When creators of other web comics I read pose questions after posting a page, I try to respond if I have some to say. If you sit down on your couch with a comic and read it through you can follow a complex, deep and interconnected story easily. If you read one page at a time over the course of years by the time the story is finished you have forgotten far too much of the detail to appreciate the whole story, the experience is fragmented. There are plenty of web comics out there going for something more than gag-a-day and they're all affected to some degree, but your once a month (or less) update schedule makes it particularly difficult. I suspect there are a lot of readers who won't recommend Maya to their friends until it's done, simply because our friends might read through the archives but definitely wouldn't stick around at the current rate of progress. It's impossible to go back and restart, but if you had a larger amount of pages up, and/or a more frequent updating schedule, you would develop a much larger following. I continue to vote for Maya on TWC, but I'm sure that many who drop by give up out of frustration over these issues.
